COLLABORATION WITH SCHOOLS Elementary Schools: We are collaborating with three local public schools to study academic success and emotional engagement in minority students. Middle School: We are also collaborating with a local middle to continue working with some of our participants who graduated from elementary school. This collaboration will help us discover how emotional engagement develops in students over time.
Researchers
Assistant Professor Jade Wexler (Co-I) is providing expertise on literacy interventions among ethnic minority youth. Professor Allan Wigfield (Co-I) ties Dr. Wexler and Dr. O’Neal’s interests together through his depth of experience over 20 years of research on motivation and literacy. Assistant Professor Xin He (Co-I) provides a public health perspective and adds his knowledge of longitudinal health change. Professor Stephen Thomas (Co-I) has expertise in minority health disparities. Assistant Professor Michelle Espino (Co-I Dream Act Study) studies Latino/a educational pathways and how these pathways are influenced by community support.
